Get your hands deep into Microsoft Fabric with two of the top experts in the field

This course is designed for users who want to learn to enhance Power BI models for enterprise deployment, creating sharing strategies, and ensure correct security. In this course, you will learn valuable tools to upgrade your semantic models to enterprise-grade solutions and take your organization's data analytics to the next level.

Transform your Power BI and Microsoft Fabric solutions into robust, scalable, and secure architectures. This two-day workshop blends the fundamentals of Medallion Architecture with advanced enterprise practices for semantic modeling, governance, and deployment. Whether you're a data analyst, Power BI developer, or aspiring data engineer, you'll gain practical skills to evolve unstructured models into fully governed, enterprise-ready solutions.

Oh yeah, and by the way, the course is taught by Reid Havens and Steve Campbell. If you don't already know them, you can read more about them here.

Participants should have a basic understanding of Power BI and data modeling concepts, including tables, relationships, and measures. Prior experience with Tabular Editor and DevOps is not required, but it may be helpful.

Day 1:

Data engineer: Building a Scalable Data Pipeline using Medallion Architecture

Day one focuses on constructing a complete Medallion Architecture using Microsoft Fabric. You'll explore core Fabric concepts like OneLake, Delta tables, and the role of Lakehouses and Warehouses. By the end of the day, you'll have built an end-to-end Bronze–Silver–Gold pipeline, including a semantic model with version control.

Understand Warehouses and Lakehouses, and how they support scalable data solutions.
Explore the storage foundation of Fabric, including Delta tables, columnar formats, and performance boosts.
Compare SQL vs. Spark, Notebooks vs. Dataflows vs. Pipelines, and Warehouses vs. Lakehouses.
Dive into version control, monitoring, and general design principles for maintainability and scale.
Create a Lakehouse and set up the required architecture.
Create an end-to-end pipeline. Bronze: Extract raw data using Pipelines. Silver: Clean and transform with Spark. Notebooks. Gold: Apply business logic using T-SQL.
Create an orchestrator and monitor end-to-end pipelines.

Day 2:

Data Analyst: Upgrade Semantic Models & Enterprise Governance

Day two dives into the platinum layer—Power BI semantic models—and teaches you how to elevate them for enterprise readiness. Learn how to architect for performance, manage lifecycle through version control and CI/CD, and secure your models with robust sharing and governance.

Learn how to optimize your model structure using best practices with Tabular Editor and DAX Studio. Explore concepts like incremental refresh, dataset sizes, and workspace design.
Understand version control for managing model versions and deploying across environments. We will introduce you to GIT, a widely used version control system, and the new Power BI Developer Mode, without delving into overly technical jargon.
Analyze using Tabular Editor and DAX Studio.
Increase efficiency and best practices, implement incremental refreshes and environment variables.
Create a PBIP file, initialize GIT, and commit your files.
